5K Run 2001

The Rotary Club of Forked River held its annual Barnegat Bay Run on April 29th.  This was the seventh anniversary of the event. It was also the second year of it being a 5K run along with a 1-mile fun run.

In past years this event has generated ample monies to fund our holiday food and gift program.  Last Thanksgiving our Rotary club provided food baskets to nearly 70 families throughout the Townships of Barnegat, Ocean (Waretown) and Lacey.  During the Christmas holiday, approximately 100 families received holiday meals and gifts for the children.  This was made possible due to the community’s participation in events such as the annual 5K run and other fundraising activities that our club holds throughout the year.

The new 5K course runs along scenic Barnegat Bay and offers a picturesque view of The Barnegat Lighthouse (Ole Barney).  The Barnegat Bay Run is a road race with a flat, asphalt surface.  This year's winner (click here for complete race results), Chris Peters of Barnegat, N.J. had a winning time of 17:21.  Lauren Rhatigan of Ship Bottom, N.J. was the first female to cross the line clocking a time of 18:21. Ten year old Brianna Jackucewicz of Brant Beach, N.J. finished fifth overall and time of 18:23.
