LACEY -- Crowded aisles and long lines will not be a problem for the Forked River Rotary Club and Lacey Township High School Interact Club on Dec. 9.

The Toms River Target on Hooper Avenue will open their doors to the students and members for their annual Holiday Elf Program. The students will have the entire store to themselves while they conduct charity shopping.

"The manager is ready and waiting for us," Jason Grabowski of the Forked River Rotary Club said.

The lack of congestion will be the least of the day's accomplishments, though.

The 2004 Holiday Elf Program provided gifts and food baskets for over 100 families in Lacey, Barnegat and Waretown.

Individual Rotarians provided for the first 60 families. Most of these families were two or three children households.

The Autumn Cash Raffle, Plasma Television Raffle and the Interact Club shopped for 107 children in the remaining families.

The Lacey High School Interact Club, a Rotary sponsored service organization, proved an essential part of the charity efforts last year. There are more than 8,600 Interact Clubs in over 110 countries around the world.

Delivered by Rotarians and Interact members, the food baskets resulted from food collection barrels at the Lacey Shop Rite and included nonperishable items as well as hams.

After perusing the empty aisles an crowded shelves on Dec. 9, Lacey Township High School students in combined efforts with the Rotary Club will distribute food and toys on Dec. 13.
